Dental Implants
in Maple Ridge

Are you suffering from one or more missing teeth or are at risk to lose teeth due to tooth decay or gum disease? Or, are you currently using a dental bridge or denture to restore your missing teeth but would like something that is a little more permanent? If so, you may want to consider dental implants from Dr. Raymond L. Chow. But what exactly are dental implants and what makes them such an attractive treatment for missing teeth? We encourage our patients residing in the Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and Mission areas of Vancouver, BC to read on to learn about this revolutionary treatment and what it can offer you.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a treatment for missing teeth that is made up of three different parts. These are:

  • The Implant Fixture: The implant fixture is the first part of the dental implant to be placed and is the piece that will end up taking the place of your missing tooth root.
  • The Abutment: The abutment is placed second, and serves to connect the restoration to the implant fixture.
  • The Restoration: The restoration is the piece that will take the place of your missing tooth. This typically takes the form of a dental crown, but can also be a dental bridge or overdenture.

The Dental Implant Process

The implant process is a straightforward method for restoring missing teeth that can be summed up in four easy steps. These steps include:

  1. The Consultation: The first step is the consultation, which is when Dr. Chow will examine your oral health to ensure that you have the jaw and gum structure necessary to support implants. If necessary, he may recommend a supplemental procedure before allowing you to move forward with the implant placement.
  2. The Procedure: During the implant procedure, the implant fixture is placed in the empty spot left behind by your missing tooth root. Once in place, the area is stitched up so that it can heal. At this point, an abutment and temporary replacement tooth may be attached to the fixture, though it is not unusual to wait until after the recovery period before receiving either of these pieces.
  3. The Recovery Period: Once the implant fixture is in place, it will need to heal for a few months so that the process of osseointegration can work its magic. Osseointegration is an organic process that results in your implant fixture being accepted by your jawbone as a natural tooth root. This process is possible because the implant fixture is made from titanium, which is a biocompatible alloy that your body doesn’t recognize as unnatural.
  4. The Restoration: Once your implant fixture has properly healed, you will return to our practice to have your permanent restoration attached. Our replacement teeth are custom made for every patient based on scans we take of their remaining natural teeth. This allows us to provide restorations that look no different from the patient’s natural teeth.

Welcome Back

Dear Patient:
We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.
Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.
Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia (CDSBC), Canadian Dental Association (CDA), the BC Center for Disease Control and Prevention (BCCDC) and WorkSafeBC. We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued.
You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
Our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.

-We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office.
-You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.
-You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
-Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
-We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at (604) 463-8262 or visit our website at www.silvervalleydental.com
Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors and friends.
Sincerely,
Silver Valley Dental Centre
